REI’S SECRET SALE section is one that our editors frequent. To us, it’s not really a “secret” as much as it is a hidden gem of sorts. While we try to take advantage of it year-round, the fall/winter is when it’s at its best, as fall layering options, winter apparel, and a bunch of our favorite outdoor gear are newly marked down just ahead of the season. This month, we’re seeing a bunch of editor-approved styles added to REI’s sale section, but it gets better from there. Nab in-season styles at nearly 50 percent off from some of our all-time favorite brands like Patagonia, Arc’teryx, Yeti, and Hoka. This is as legit a fall sale as you can get, and there’s no better way of re-upping your seasonal wardrobe than saving some of your hard-earned dough.
There is a catch, though: REI’s sale section is notoriously difficult to navigate, and you may miss out on some of the best deals the outfitter has to offer. Fortunately, we did some of the heavy lifting for you and curated some of our favorite discounted gear, no strings attached. Of course, if you want to shop the full sale section below, by all means, have at it; otherwise, scroll down for some of our favorite REI sales in October.

There’s a lot to digest here, so we’ll highlight some of our absolute favorites. The Arc’teryx Atom Insulated Jacket is a solid transitional fall jacket with legitimate winter wear chops, and it’s now 40 percent off. Speaking of insulation, the Patagonia Down Sweater Jacket is another one of our all-time favorite men’s jackets, and it’s now nearly 50 percent off in select colors.
Fall is the name, flannel-wearing is the game. Right now, one of our favorite flannels, the Free Country Easywear II Flannel Shirt, is nearly 40 percent off. The cozy shirt features a lightweight, everyday form fit that makes it a versatile wardrobe staple.
PSA: You don’t have to discontinue your outdoor running routine due to inclement weather. A few editor-approved running shoes received a winterized makeover, and they also happen to be on sale. Save over 25 percent on the Brooks Ghost 16 Weatherized Road-Running Shoes that feature enhanced outsole traction and water-repellent materials. The OnCloud 6 Waterproof Shoes feature On’s signature cushioned comfort, only they now feature a waterproof PFAS-free membrane. They’re also now 25 percent off on REI’s site.
Other fall-approved steals include over 30 percent off on the classic Herschel Supply Co. Watch Cap Beanie, 22 percent off the insulated Yeti Rambler Vacuum Travel Mug, and nearly 40 percent savings on the durable, four-season Osprey Arcane XL Daypack.
