THOUGH THE LATEST round of U.S. tariffs that President Donald Trump placed on about 60 countries have only been in effect since Wednesday, the global markets are already reacting. These individual tariffs are wreaking havoc on stock markets, causing the S&P 500 to fall 4.8% on Thursday—its biggest single day loss since 2020 during the pandemic. That saw the stock of major athletic brands also take big hits on Thursday—companies like Nike (-13%), Lululemon (-13%), Adidas (-12%), and Puma (-11%). And most economists says this is just the start, with the S&P 500 falling 4.5% already on Friday and a 10% baseline tariff on all foreign-origin goods being put in place this Saturday.

Economists predict that running shoes, workout apparel, consumer electronics, and more are likely to eventually get higher price tags. As companies I mentioned above (and many others) start having to pay more to import the goods they manufacture in countries impacted by the tariffs, those goods may cost more. And it turns out: Many of our favorite workout gear and tech brands manufacture their goods overseas.

Consumers are already recognizing this, and are rushing to buy things now that could start getting marked up when inventories need to be replenished. While it might not feel like a deal just yet, this can be a smart tactic to buy things now that you were already planning on down the road. Be mindful of where you buy those items from though, as international shippers are already beginning to levy fees and duties to consumers.

With that concept in mind, we want to recommend eight brands it might be wise to stock up on now—before their products start costing you more.

Adidas

For its footwear, Vietnam (46% tariff) is Adidas’ main sourcing country—in 2023, 38% of the total volume was made there. That was followed by Indonesia (32% tariff) and China (34% tariff). Adidas apparel is mainly manufactured in Cambodia (49% tariff).

After a ton of recent testing, we just named the Apple AirPods Pro 2 the best workout headphones. The fit is superior to lots of other options, and the tech behind them is second to none. When it comes to fitness trackers, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is Apple’s best option. While it’s larger and bulkier than the Apple Watch Series 10, it has impressive GPS and shines in the outdoors for tracking cardio activities. Which makes the Series 10 our actual best Apple Watch, as its slimmer design is better-fitting for working with weights in the gym.

The Hoka Cielo X1 2.0 was just awarded our best race day shoe in our running shoes guide. This version was a huge improvement on the 1.0 with a thin jacquard mesh upper making them even more breathable and lightweight. The Clifton 9, which is about to be replaced by the Clifton 10 (we’re currently testing it), is a great running shoe that can do double duty as a walking shoe. It’s lightweight at just under 9 oz and the high stack provides a plush yet snappy step. And if you’re looking to go off-road, we recommend the Speedgoat 6 as Hoka’s top trail running shoe. We recently pitted it against the Skyline-Float X (a plush hiker) and found the brand’s terrain DNA comes to life on trails for a sturdy yet comfortable run.

When it comes to basics, it’s tough to beat Mack Weldon. Its Silver Crew Neck T-Shirt is our best overall t-shirt, which is no easy feat since we’ve tested more than 60. We’ve worn this tee just about everywhere, and there isn’t a situation that it doesn’t hold up. The ladder stitching increases durability and the soft cotton is unbeatable. The Airknitx Boxer Brief is another big winner in our books, as it’s our best overall underwear. The moisture-wicking, anti-odor fabric is comfortable and breathable. But you also get a ton of support with a secured waist and grippy leg band to keep it from riding up. And you wouldn’t think of an undershirt being something that needs a lot of overthinking, but that’s not until you try the Airknitx V-Neck Undershirt. Using that same amazing fabric blend from the boxers, it’s a great slim fit option that stays in place and doesn’t overheat you.

Nike has been one of the biggest names in athletic sneakers for decades, and that’s because the design and innovation is top-notch. The Free Metcon 6 is our best overall cross-training shoe because it’s versatile, has a roomy toe box, and offers a balance between comfort and stability. Essentially, any training that involves lateral movement is what these shoes do best. When it comes to running shoes, the new Vomero 18 gets our seal of approval as the best daily training running shoe. The 46 mm stack height offers multiple layers of foam to maximize energy return and comfort. We get smooth and secure strides with this top runner. Therabody’s recovery devices are some of the top ones out there. Its Theragun PRO is still our top massage gun because you can fine-tune the settings and it has a good weight to it. That helps it deliver up to 60 pounds of force for those times when you really need to work out soreness. The Theragun Mini on the other hand is a great massage gun for travel—whether that’s on an actual trip or just having it in your gym bag. Its odd shape actually provides good leverage and a solid grip. Compression boots are becoming more and more popular, and they can make sense when it comes to getting your nervous system to down regulate. When it comes to the best joggers, we will never stop talking up the Vuori Sunday Performance Jogger. And the zippered pocket comes in clutch. But it’s not just joggers Vuori can do—the Kore Short are our favorite gym sweatshorts. The soft, stretchy blend of polyester and elastane can do it all, and the built-in liner is breathable while offering support. With 5″, 7″, and 9″ inseam options, there’s a version for every guy.
