On Amazon, you’ll find clubs used by the pros, like the Callaway Elyte driver or the PXG Gen7 irons. You can buy a Taylormade Spider putter, the same putter used by Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, the top two players in the world, respectively. If you’re not ready to splash that much cash, you can still find great value on Amazon from brands like Stix Golf, Callaway, and more.
What to Consider
Seller Reputation and Product Authenticity
This is a consideration that is unique to Amazon. You’ll want to look for the “Ships from and sold by Amazon.com” designation or an authorized retailer on the product page to ensure you get an authentic club that the brand actually made. There are a lot of reputable sellers on Amazon, including Amazon itself, but it’s also easy to find clubs that cannot be verified as authentic, so be sure you keep a close eye on where the club is coming from.
Know Your Specifications
Unlike at your local Dick’s Sporting Goods or golf course pro shop, on Amazon, you can’t try before you buy. You’ll want to ensure you know your skill level and preferred specs, like shaft flex, materials, or length. These seem like small factors but choosing the correct specs for your club(s) can make or break your golf experience.
Understand the Return Policy
This seems like a no-brainer on Amazon—you can return anything, right? Well, since Amazon has so many sellers, you need to make sure you’re looking at clubs that come from a retailer who allows you to make a return if it doesn’t work out. This, along with choosing a reputable seller and knowing your specs, will prevent unnecessary returns.
How We Selected
As a lifelong golfer, I’ve played with dozens of different clubs and club brands over the years, from hand-me-down vintage sets to brand new players’ irons and top-of-the-line drivers. I’ve played rounds at some of the best courses in North America, including Cabot Cape Breton and the Ocean Course on Kiawah Island in South Carolina, and maintain a handicap in the mid-teens (though I wish it were lower). In the past few years alone, I’ve tested clubs from some of the biggest brands in the game, including Titleist, Callaway, Taylormade, Takomo, PXG, LA Golf, L.A.B. Golf, Wilson, Stix, and others.
To make our choices for this guide, I consulted with Senior Gear and Commerce Editor Ryan Brower (a mid-handicaper himself) to determine which clubs available on Amazon were truly worthwhile. The result was a well-rounded lineup of options ranging from PGA Pro-trusted clubs like the Callaway Elyte to affordable club sets from Stix that outfit you from driver to putter in one fell swoop.
