What Is Amazon Resale?

Previously known as Amazon Warehouse, Amazon Resale is where the retailer offers products that aren’t able to be sold as new, but are still functionally fine—and oftentimes in near-mint condition. Most of the Amazon Resale items have either been returned or sold back to Amazon, which the retailer generally resells at absurd discounts.

But don’t let the pseudo-secondhand nature sway you, sometimes products might be returned in perfect condition (for example, if an item of clothing didn’t fit the buyer) and others Amazon will refurbish before listing again. Pretty much anything you can find new on Amazon will likely also be available on Amazon Resale (usually with a sizable discount).

The products on Amazon Resale span a wide range of categories, but it’s a smart place to shop for items that are more expensive, like TVs and tech gadgets.

How Do I Find Amazon Resale?

Despite its somewhat secrecy, Amazon Resale is open to everybody—you don’t need a Prime membership. When looking at Amazon’s homepage, click on the drop-down menu where you can switch between categories to search from. You’ll see “Amazon Resale” in the menu. Select it. You can then search for a specific product by typing directly into the search bar and only Resale results will show up.

Now let’s say you just want to browse what Amazon Resale has to offer, simply click on the magnifying glass icon at the end of the search bar and it’ll take you to the Resale homepage. Be sure to also keep these deals in mind when canvassing Amazon’s new products by looking for “Amazon Resale” listings under “Other sellers on Amazon”.

How Does Amazon Resale Work?

If you’ve ever bought anything used off of Amazon, you’re probably familiar with the condition options. Before listing an item for resale in the Amazon Resale, Amazon uses a graded scale to determine which of these conditions apply using a 20-point quality inspection process for damage, packaging and functionality. These are the five categories you’ll find detailing the condition of an item on Amazon Resale:

    • Renewed: One of the best conditions available on Amazon Resale and usually indicates the item is like-new, with one minor caveat—these items are refurbished. For those unfamiliar, that indicates an item has been previously used or possibly damaged before being professionally inspected, tested and restored to like-new condition. These also include an Amazon Renewed Guarantee, giving you 90 days to receive and inspect the product before deciding if you want to keep or return it.
    • Used – Like New: These items work perfectly and the packaging usually looks new too. We’ve bought Used—Like New Amazon Resale items that looked like they’d never been touched.
    • Used – Very Good: One step below UsedLike New, these items have been used very little, if at all, and the packaging is typically in very good shape.
    • Used – Good: Items in average condition that have probably been used, but still work perfectly. The packaging may be damaged or missing, or the item may come repackaged by Amazon.
    • Used – Acceptable: Well-used items that still function. Packaging is typically missing or damaged. These are the best deals available through Amazon Resale.
    • Used – As Is: If you’ve ever browsed used cars online, you’re probably familiar with the phrase “sold as is”. This generally means that the product is being sold without any guarantees about its quality or condition. It’s the biggest dice roll out of all these options, as Amazon is essentially divulging that the item may have noticeable wear and tear or defects.

In case you’re skeptical, Amazon does have a structure in place to protect your Resale purchase. If you’re unhappy with your order, Amazon promises a free replacement within 30 days of your purchase (so long as there’s an equivalent in stock).
